Pleasantville announces Dr. Eric Lutinski as Superintendent through June 2029.

Citing Strong Confidence in Dr. Lutinski, the Board Intends to Appoint Him Superintendent of Schools Under a Three-Year Contract

PLEASANTVILLE, NY, August 27, 2026The Pleasantville Board of Education announced its intention to extend Dr. Eric Lutinski’s tenure as the District’s superintendent. The Board intends to remove “Interim” from his title and appoint him Superintendent of Schools under a three-year contract retroactive to July 1, 2026 and running through June 30, 2029.

Since joining the Pleasantville schools on July 2, 2025, Dr. Lutinski has proven to be an experienced, steady and highly effective leader. He has earned the confidence of the Board of Education and the District’s faculty and staff and developed strong working relationships throughout the Pleasantville community. He brings significant experience leading complex district initiatives, and his time in Pleasantville has given him a strong understanding of the District, its culture and its community. That combination is particularly valuable as Pleasantville moves from approval to implementation of its major capital project and develops a new Strategic Plan that will help shape the District’s direction for the years ahead.

“Dr. Lutinski brings an unusual combination of deep experience and a genuine understanding of Pleasantville,” said Board of Education President John Vamossy. “We have seen firsthand his ability to listen, build trust, navigate complex issues and move important work forward and are confident that he is the right person to lead Pleasantville through this important period.”

Dr. Lutinski’s experience has already played a significant role in the District’s capital project. He worked closely with the community to listen to feedback and help shape a proposed project that reflected both the District’s needs and community priorities. His thoughtful approach to that process helped build trust as the District navigated key decisions and ultimately brought the proposal to voters for approval. His continued leadership will provide important continuity as the project moves through implementation.

At the same time, the District is undertaking a comprehensive strategic planning process designed to establish priorities for the years ahead. The process will incorporate input from students, faculty and staff, families, residents, the Board and other stakeholders. Dr. Lutinski brings prior experience with strategic planning and establishing the systems and structures needed to translate identified priorities into action.

“I am grateful for the confidence the Board has placed in me and for the relationships I have built with our students, staff, families and community,” said Dr. Lutinski. “Pleasantville is a very special school community, and the opportunity to continue serving it is personally meaningful to me. There is important work ahead, and I look forward to continuing that work together, particularly as we implement the capital project and develop a Strategic Plan that reflects what this community values for its schools and its students.”

Dr. Lutinski joined Pleasantville as Interim Superintendent in July 2025 after previously serving as Superintendent of the Rye Neck Union Free School District. The three-year agreement will be retroactive to July 1, 2026 and extend through June 30, 2029. Three years is the minimum contract term for a superintendent under New York State law.

The Board is expected to formally act on Dr. Lutinski’s appointment and contract at an upcoming meeting.
